Addition and Interior Renovation | Single Family Dwelling

Historic Brook Knoll

Located in Lower Merion Township on a property known as ‘Brook Knoll’, a recently completed interior renovation and rear two-story addition bring contemporary living space to this historic Tudor Revival house. Originally designed by architect Benjamin Linfoot and constructed in 1895, along with a detached tutor style carriage house, it was imperative that the character of this renowned and prominent building was preserved throughout the design process.

The footprint of the addition was planned in such a way that all access points into the new addition were from existing exterior openings as a means to limit alterations to the historic structure. The addition grants space for a new living room, kitchen, office, mudroom, and two-car garage on the first floor and a primary bedroom suite and private balcony on the second floor. The generous living room opens up to a modern kitchen and breakfast area. Multiple large French doors situated along the perimeter of the addition allow for natural light to penetrate the open floor plan. Reconfiguration of interior walls along with modern finishes throughout the existing structure balance modern living standards with the historic Brook Knoll charm the homeowners originally fell in love with.
